Plaza Ñuñoa

My favorite neighbourhood in Santiago is Plaza Ñuñoa, because you have a lot of things you can do. Plaza Ñuñoa is in Irarrazabal between George Washington and Manuel Plaza, in the centre of Ñuñoa.

In Plaza Ñuñoa there are lots of pubs and restaurant with different kind of food, you can eat Italian food, sushi, sandwich, and you can try artisanal beer and also you can listen to a live music.

Also it is a good place to go with kids, because there are games for children and you can ride your bike. And there sell really tasty ice creams.

So, you have a lot of entertainment.
To go to Plaza Ñuñoa you can go by bus (for Irarrazabal) or by car.

"Sky High" by Carolina Ocares

Sky High was directed by Mike Mitchell tell the story of Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) son of the most important super heroes Steve and Josie Stronghold (Kut Russel and Kelly Preston) and his firsts days at High School for heroes.

Will doesn’t have super power so he has to study with the “Sidekicks”, and he get on well with them, they are like the looser of the school because their power aren’t useful. In the meanwhile he fell in love of the most popular girl at the school, Gwen.

One day a guy, whose father was captured by his parents ,start to attack him, and suddenly Will become super strong and he started studying with the “Heroes” (the popular students).

On the day of the dance Gwen reveals as “Royal Pain”, a villain who convert the heroes in babies, but Will and his friends, the Sidekicks, save the heroes and beat Gwen.

I recommended “Sky High” to enjoy it in family, it is a really entertaiment movie.

movie review ... Gerardo

I tried to use another movie … but I couldn’t. my review is going to be about… THE DARK KNIGTH (BATMAN)

The movie was set in 2008. The director was Christopher Nolan (who directed also batman begins, inception and memento) it was starring for Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne), Heath Ledger (The Joker) and Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent / two faces).

The movie takes place almost a year later from the previous movie (Batman begins). The crime landlords are terrified of batman at the point to make their meetings during the day. Bruce Wayne is trying to get his life back in the meanwhile Rachel Daws (Bruce Wayne beloved) found a new love with the new District Attorney Harvey Dent, this start a conflict between the dark knight and the bright knight. On the other hand a maniac who calls himself The Joker wants to make burn Gotham City pushing the people to the edge of the rationality.

The film was road on Los Angeles. had 8 nominations for the Oscar’s 2009, finally they won 2. One of the remarkable situations of this film is the dead of Heath Ledger who dies a couple of months before the premiere of The Dark Knight. Some movie journalist agree to say, this joker is certainly the real of the comic book, some even says “is better than Jack Nicholson’s Joker”. In my opinion is great and because him the hype for the next movie is really high the fans are expecting something better in honor to the Ledger Joker.

A day in my past… (Gerardo)

Recently my days had turned a little boring so I will try to describe something interesting.
The Friday 19 of November I made a lot of arrangements, more than I should. The night before I worked until 2am, being at home around 3am, so my Friday started at 11am (around that). I left home at 3:30pm, and already late!

At 4pm I had to be in estacion central, well not. I arrived there at 4:30pm to pick up the photo. My girlfriend asked me to go with her to a job interview, she had to being there at 5pm or before, I couldn’t get there on time so, she'd gone alone, after that I met her at 5:15pm. We didn't argue (I thought we would) but she was a little pissed out of me, she left the Santa Lucia subway station at 5:25pm (where finally we met) and supposed I had to being in Tobalaba at 5:30 to meet Emir and the rest of the course, luckily just Fabian were there on time, at was 5:45pm and finally met emir so the three of us were ready to goes to the supermarket and start with the arrangements for the party…

biography

Chose a person who inspires me, to write about him, was a hard decision. I don’t accept ideas or behaviors from others easily. After a couple of days I realize the man who mostly inspired me among this last years is the priest Alberto Hurtado.

Well about his life. He was born at the beginning of the 20th century (1901, Viña del Mar). He was the older of two brothers. When he was 5 years old his father died. From that moment he moves to he’s uncle's house in Santiago. During the school period he attends to “San Ignacio el Bosque” school. After finish the school he turns into the PUC to study laws. Just at the end of the career he would take he’s dreamed decision, join to the Jesuits (he couldn’t do It before for economic problems on his house). Since that day he’s path included part of the preparation in Cordoba, Sarria (Esp) and Lovainna (Bel).

After complete with the preparation and back in Chile he’s first job as priest was the youth catholic movement. After a couple of years in this position and some remarkable moments, with some important changes, he could look up for two of his worries the Jesus Christ of the street, the homeless, and the workers. For the homeless and in an intent to fix in some way the situation he built “El hogar de Cristo”. For the workers he used his skills as lawyer helping in the labor union movement in Chile. Some of his ideas were not always well accepted.

He worked hard really hard, looking the face of Christ on the one who suffer. After a short life he got sick of cancer, finally he died the 18 of august of 1952 aged 51 years old, his services were one of the most remembered of the last fifty years.

For most of you the rest of the history is well known and the blog is not enough space for this. He changed the life of a lot of people and even now a days still changing people’s life.

Movie Review: 50 First Dates

50 First Dates was directed by Peter Segal in 2003 and shows the strange romantic relationship between Henry (Adam Sandler) y Lucy (Drew Barrymore). He is a marine veterinarian living in Hawai, who usually love to have easy relations whit tourists which  end when they return to their place of origin. She is a young teacher who had a car accident and suffered brain damage that makes every day his memory is erased, forgetting what happened the previous day. When they meet, they both feel mutual attraction, and Henry decides to forget her fleeting conquests to settle down with Lucy. But she certainly does not recognize it the next day. And he begins a strange routine to seduce the girl every day. With the help of his friend Ula (Rob Schneider), Henry must find a way to make Lucy fall in love with him every day.
I strongly recommend 50 First Dates. It make you laugh and have a good time
Regards,
M. Lucy

Last Saturday...

The last Saturday I was the subordinate of my little brother. First he woke me up early, around 9 AM (this is early for me on weekend in which I usually wake up at 12 pm), to take him to a shoe store. Like this had not been enough for him, after he chose his shoes, I had to pay for them.
Then we returned to our house around 1:00 p.m. and we had lunch with my family. After lunch I started feeling sleepy and I had to take a nap. After my nap, I felt pretty lazy and turned on the TV and saw a movie. While I watching the movie my brother showed up again and now he needed to take him to a birthday party. At 7 pm I dropped in his birthday party and before he left the car he asked me if I could went for him when the party was over. I said ok. When I came back to my home I had dinner and I had to wait to 1 am to fetch him.
I really would liked to have a big brother or big sister like me...
Regards,
M.Lucy

A Place I like in Santiago

I have been in Santiago around 6 years, and I think there is no better place in Santiago than my home, especially my room. My room is not very large, I would say it should measure about 10 m2, but has its own bathroom. I think I like my room because I'm pretty lazy and the most important part is my room is out of the main house, is like a tiny house in the backyard so I am isolated from all the noises that my family can produce.
My home is located in La Florida and to get to my house, it´s very easy. If you take public transportation. You must get to the subway station called Mirador (Line 5) and change to a pay car. Other way to get to my home is take a bus wich cross La Florida Avenue with Enrique Olivares Street and then you have to walk around 10 blocks or you can take a taxi.
Regards,
M.Lucy

Movie review : Razor’s Edge

I have been thinking about the best movie that I have had the opportunity to watch and I remembered Razor’s  Edge. This movie  made me cry, laugh, feel good. I see that movie in 1987 in VHS, when the DVD didn’t exist. I don’t konw if this movie is in DVD.
The Genre of this movie is Drama and it is based on W. Somerset Maugham's classic novel, it was directed by John Byrum and was reedited in 1984 because it had a first edition in 1946. The actor Bill Murray (Larry Darrel in the movie), a great actor, was the protagonist.
This film is set in the battlefield of  the war world I, in Europe. In that moment Larry Darrel changed his life. He had a good life before the war, but when he came back to his house after the war, he left everything and started to work in different jobs. When he was working into a mine he read different kind of books, but when he was reading an Indian book about the human spirit, the love and other stuff suddenly he left the work and he went to live to the Tibet, there he read all the books that he could. After that experience his life was wonderful, but the people whose know him, were different too. He wanted asked for to old girlfriend If she would like married him, but she was married with his better friend. At the end of the movie he married with Sophie, but she was murdered,  however he kept his spirit´s power.
I recommend Razor’s Edge because is a beautiful movie that allows us think about our life and maybe the most important, to find some meaning in our life.

Enjoy it

Gonzalo

Describe a Famous

Charlie Harper is a fictional character from my favourite Sitcom Two and a half men, played by the nowadays controversial actor Charlie Sheen.
The show is about Charlie a hedonistic jingle writer, his brother Alan, and Alan's growing son, Jake. His free-wheeling life is complicated and altered when his brother gets divorced and moves, along with his son, into Charlie's house in Malibu.

Charlie is extremely successful as a commercial jingle writer and does very well with the ladies. His love life is a recurring theme in his character, he is a drunken womanizer who has engaged in decades of frequent one night stands, prostitutes, and "relationships" of short duration, in stark contrast to his brother Alan's inability to garner much female attention.

Describing him he’s in his late-thirties but he acts like he is in his twenties, physically he is medium height. He has short black hair, brown eyes and is always shaved. He also wears bowling shirts and shorts. From a psychologically perspective he is very egocentric, he is also an alcoholic and a compulsive gambler, though he seems cold, he definitely takes care of both his brother and nephew.

Mauricio.

A typical day

On a typical day of the week, I get up around 6:30 for taking a shower and a quick breakfast which consists on a tea cup or chocolate milk and bread with jam. When I finish, I take my bag and I walk for taking the bus to the subway.
It takes me around 10 minutes arriving to Pedrero subway and then I take direction to Plaza de Puente Alto, in contrast with most of the people that goes downtown.
The travel by subway in that direction is very quiet and I’m always reading something, like a book or studying Chemistry.
I arrive to the Puente Alto Square around 8:15 and I take another bus for going to my work at Concha y Toro. When I arrive I put my white coat and I start working analysing different wines. I don’t have lunch everyday at the same time because it depends on my partners, but I have lunch most of the times between 13:00 and 14:00.

I finish my work at 17:30 and take the company’s bus, then I take the subway again in direction to the English class. When I finish the course at 9:30 I come back home for having dinner and sleep.

Mauricio.

About a Place in Santiago: Ñuñoa

It is one of my favourite neighbourhoods in Santiago, because it is very safe and it has a variety of old residential areas to explore, historic buildings to visit and interesting day and night life.
There are a lot of interesting places to visit in Ñuñoa. In one of its main streets, Avenida Grecia, it is located the University of Chile’s Arts and Science faculties, and the National Stadium.

The Municipal Theatre of Ñuñoa is in Irarrazaval Street. About 15 blocks farther west on Irarrazaval is Ñuñoa’s civic hub and nightspot area, Plaza Ñuñoa, one of the most important and attractive squares in the borough. Right on the square is the municipal building, and in the immediate area is a range of restaurants, such as Las Lanzas and La Tecla, as well as a variety of cafés and bars.
Also nearby are located the Universidad Católica Theater, Del Carmen Church and a number of art galleries.
Another thing that I like from this neighbourhood is that you can find parks that are far from the noise of the main roads. Only a few blocks from the Casa de Cultura between Juan Moya and Los Jardines is the long, narrow Juan XXIII park. It’s small but pleasant and has a Japanese design with giant animal sculptures and a 300-seat open-air theatre. There’s also a small but worthwhile botanical garden on Echeñique between Pedro Torres and Carlos Aguirre Luco, about six blocks north.

It´s a crazy day

Last Monday was a crazy day. My day started with a meeting with an important customer at his office, so I went straight to his office and what happened? My customer arrived to his office one hour later,  I waited quietly and when he arrived he asked me, “what are you doing here?” I told him, “we have a meeting, Don´t you remember?” , sorry but I don´t have time, but if you come back after the lunch we could talk.

When I came back to my office , my boss called me because he needed my help with another customer, so I took my car again, when arrived to the meeting  the customer started to ask me about some projects and…….I didn´t know anything about those projects...I was there about 2 hours and I couldn´t have lunch.

I decided to come back to the office , when I took my car I saw a red light in the dashboard, I didn´t know what happened with the red light, but anyway, I didn´t mind it. One hour later when I was on  Americo Vespucio Avenue, all the lights  started to turn on,  Oh my God! What happened ? Suddenly, I had to take the first exit that I could and the car stopped and it didn´t start over…I immediately called my insurance company and I asked for a crane, my idea was  going  for technical service, but I called  and they told me that the schedule was until 6:00 PM ,so the crane arrived where I had my car, about 6:00 PM,  picked the car up and took it to my house. Finally, the crane got my house at about 8:30 so I really got home about 9:00 PM…I didn’t eat anything because I was exhausted and I fell asleep immediately…….

I hope no to repeat such a day

Best Regards
Gonzalo

My favorite Artist

One of my favorite artist is Luciano Pavarotti. In my opinion, he had the most beautiful voice that I have ever heard. He not only sang classical music but also played popular music.

Luciano was born in Modena on 12th October 1935 , Italy. Since Luciano was a kid, he thought that he would like to be a football player, but the history would say otherwise.

When he began to sing with his father in a litlle church near  his house, he realized that the music, especially the opera, was a great opportunity to follow.

In 1961 Placido debuted in the Opera La Bohéme of Puccini, it was a great moment for him to begin a new life.

Since that day his career as a singer was growing and developing successfully until the day of his death.

One of the most remarkable moment in his life was when he began to sing with Plácido Domingo and José Carreras, they were called “Los Tres Tenores”. The idea was to bring everyone to the classical music and that was so. For many years, they were singing in different places, each presentation was  wonderful.

Luciano died in his house on 6th September 2007, because of a pancreatic cancer.

If you have time please listen to Nesum Dorma (Turandot, Puccini) or Recondita Armonia (Tosca, Puccini) amount other beautiful passages of different operas.

Well my friends I hope it has been interesting for you.

Gonzalo
